Welcome

The London Libraries Development Agency (LLDA) was created in 2000 to develop and implement a co-ordinated strategic vision for library and information services across London.

We make sure that everyone can gain the most of what London’s library network can offer by:

  • forging partnerships and building links that improve the quality and scope of library services, widen access and increase the resources available
  • acting as a first point of contact for those who seek to work with libraries throughout London
  • making the case for libraries, stimulating debate and discussion about the roles libraries can play.

Since we started we have:

  • brought in over £2.5 million additional funding to the London library sector
  • developed and co-ordinated pioneering projects to improve the services delivered by London’s libraries. A number of these are now being taken up in other regions, nationally and even internationally
  • ensured, by facilitating collaboration and joint enterprise, that the resources of London’s libraries go further, and that their services and stock are accessible to more Londoners
  • supported library managers, elected members and other stakeholders in building arguments and seeking solutions to develop and improve the quality of local library services
  • gained positive media coverage for London’s libraries in national and regional press, raising the profile of the sector with potential users and partners.

You can find further information on our projects, partners and plans for the future, and on the fantastic work of London’s libraries on this website.

This website is aimed at librarians, policy makers and partners. To search London's library collections and services click here.
